Blown-In Insulation
Blown-in insulation, or loose-fill insulation, uses small, fluffy particles (like fiberglass or cellulose) blown by a machine through a hose to fill attics, walls, and floors, effectively insulating hard-to-reach spots, sealing air leaks, and improving energy efficiency and comfort in homes. It's known for its ability to conform to irregular spaces, providing a seamless blanket of insulation
Key Benefits
- Fills Gaps: Excellent for filling awkward spaces, wiring, and pipes.
- Air Sealing: Reduces drafts and air infiltration, improving energy performance.
- Energy Savings: Lowers heating and cooling costs.
- Moisture/Pest Resistance: Cellulose is often treated to resist mold, mildew, insects, and rodents
Common Applications
- Attic floors (most common): It is blown across the attic floor to create a seamless thermal blanket
- Wall cavities: Small holes are drilled into the top of wall cavities, and the material is injected through a hose to fill the space without removing drywall
- Floors and crawl spaces: Used to reduce heat loss to the ground and dampen noise between floor levels.
Energy Efficiency: By effectively sealing air leaks, it can significantly reduce HVAC load and lower energy bills by up to 20%.
